When I got a new job in a new state, my wife and I got on a joint plan with shared minutes. Her phone is the one that's added onto the main plan, and we've since discovered that she doesn't use anywhere near her allotted number of minutes per month. At $80/mo for the two us, that's a pretty steep bill.
There's 16 months left on the contract, and AT&T tells me I can't take her number off the plan without canceling my whole contract and paying a fee. Has anyone had any luck with this in the past? Does it make sense that I can add a phone for $10/mo but then I have to pay an arm and a leg to get out of said plan?
Thanks for any info anyone can share on this one.

Why not change your plan to one with less minutes, they have a 550 minutes plan for 59.99. I have not lowered a plan, but I have changed to one with more minutes without extending contract.

You should be able to change it yourself. Log on to my wireless account and click rate plan & features, under change rate plan click change your rate plan.
