att out of contract

just wanted to let some ppl know,

after you sign a 2 year contract you are locked in,
but once its over, everyone always assumes that you have to sign a new one, this is absolutely not true you can just keep paying 4 the same plan/phones that you already have, they wont ever sedgiest it because they want you in another 2 year contract

i am 100% sure of this i am now 4 month's past my contract

so next time your contract expires and you have just figured out how to call someone on your phone, just know that you dont have to sign another contract and loose your phone + get locked in to another contract

Questions?
dont be afraid 2 ask, if i dont know i will find out

P.S. you can still tweak your plan if you are out of contract

I also feel that it is important to point out here, that after the contract runs out, there are certain promotions such as "Roll Over Minutes" that will be removed from the account until another customer agreement has been signed.......

That was never the case when i had Cingular/AT&T, roll over stays irrespective of whether you sign another contract or not, it is not really a special promotion.

Re: att out of contract

Ellen,

The rollover will continue as long as you are on a roll over plan, whether or not you sign up for another contract. I believe what they mean is that roll over minutes expire on a 12 month revolving schedule, which means the roll over minutes that were accumulated July 07 will expire this month. This happens even if you are in contract.

In my OLAM it says rollover minutes to expire Aug 03, 2008 (start of my next billing cycle) 85.

If you go over the monthly minutes, the oldest rollover accumulated is used first, so if I go over by 85 minutes, then those 85 minutes would have been used up.

I have two lines, one is in contract and the other is month to month, they have identical voice plans and the same rollover, N&W, m2m on both etc.

Re: att out of contract

After my contract ended with AT&T/CINGULAR, i stayed on a month to month basis and my roll-over minutes were left intact, this could have been because i was a long time customer and/or at their discretion.

Mabe because my first line was in contract when I got the second line, it was given the rollover even though it was a new number and month to month and my own equipment.

Re: att out of contract

our contract expired about 6 months ago or so and we pay month to month, and as far as I know, [wife pays the bills] I think we still get rollover minutes. Plus we buy the phones off ebay or other markets for half what these lousy companies charge.
works for us

Re: att out of contract

So what you all are saying is that the rollover minutes will continue to rollover even if the contract had ended right?

My contract is about to expire in September/October and I've been receiving phone calls from my local AT&T store where I signed a contract before asking me to come in and sign a new contract with them a get some new phones. I'm reluctant to do because the new family plans I've seen offers me less minutes but at the same price I'm currently paying but I receive more minutes with my current plan.

ryan18, Ellen is right, you do not need to change your plan, specially the voice plan to upgrade your phone. Everything remains the same and all you do is sign another contract for getting the new phone at a subcidized price.

The exception to this is when you upgrade to an IPhone, PDAPhone or a Blackberry. This usually affects the data plan and not voice.

Just an addition to the rollover - you will always have 12 months worth of rollover in the bank. When the 13Th. month's billing cycle ends, the minutes saved that month get added to the rollover and the first month's minute drop off. It is the same whether you renew your contract or not.

Hope this helps.

Re: att out of contract

Ellen, that is a question of major controversy over at the AT&T forums. The consensus seems to be the the BBs will work on voice only,if you don't take a BB plan. With the PDAPhones all the functions will be available w/o a PDA plan but supposedly there are audits going on and at a minimum PDA usrs are put on a PDA Plan & worse case may also be backcharged.

The proper data plans are usually a must for qualifying for any rebates being offered. No plan change is needed just affects the data add-on.

Re: att out of contract

Ellen, is he saying that he was no problem with mms & sms w/o a BB plan? That is interesting, I didn't think it was possible since BBs use their own server not Media Net, so for sure mms would not be possible.

The policy is the same as Verizon, no BB w/o a BB plan.

Ofcourse then there is the iCandy that AT&T sells, which comes with it's own unique strings.

Thanks, this is good to know & it will help me also. I have every intention of trying out the BOLD but don't want to sign up for the BB plan during the trial period. I am on an older PDA unlimted plan which is less expensive than the ones being offerd now & will not be able to come back to it if I decide to return the BB.

He has one of the standard messaging packages on AT&T, then?
