Re: Help - AT&T Converted by service without My Knowledge

thanks nicknrm - the rest of my family is on verizonwireless and have asked several colleagues i do business with about their providers. i wanted, at first, the iphone but since at&t are the only providers, i don't want an iphone that bad. i've already been in touch with verizonwireless...the only drawback is that they don't do GSM/unlocked phones (which i've always purchased). since phone sales people work on commission, i'll contact the guy i originally spoke to, now that i have already told at&t i will no longer be a customer of theirs. i've heard from many folks that verizon probably has the best service coverage area - i can't handle the drop calls and no service thing. i deal with people all over the country and sometimes abroad. that's the reason why i can't consider carriers like t-mobile and even sprint has some coverage problems as well. i'll probably have to go into a store to actually look and hold a blackberry - thinking of the blackberry storm, but i know how things go with the first version of anything....a lot of bugs. there are just so many choices with the blackberrys. i've already started contacting the companies that i have specialized applications that i used on the treo - i'm a plan b person and knew i would leave cingular/at&t. understand, it really wasn't the $5/mo thing, it was the integrity issue that i bugged me. my last kid has the original moto q verion and has had lots of problems, so i've informed her that i'm probably moving over to verizon and to pick out a new phone and i'll move her over to my plan. because of my high phone usage, i'll probably go with unlimited stuff (which a colleague says he has about about 140/mo), so my kid probably feels like she just walked into candy store! i think i read though, for every new phone, requires a 2 yr contract for each new phone, so she'll have to get her new phone before i move her to my plan. although i was with cingular/at&t for almost 10 years, i hate the idea of being forced to stay with a company, so i don't like the 4 year plan thing (if i read it right). i'm trying to convince myself that not being able to do unlocked/gsm with verizon is not a show stopper...i'm almost there. as all companies do, at least with long term customers, they always followup to ask why you left and how they can get you back...boy will they get an earful from me when it happens...if i decide to even speak with them. i remember one bank that we left, when they called to ask why we left and how they could get us back, all i could tell them was 2 years ago when we went in asking for a preferred rate for a home mortgage, their mortgage guy didn't even come out of his office to speak with us or even look at how much money we had with them (which was considered substantial), so we never put another penny into their bank and i just didn't get around to closing the account. the rep was speechless. (we did get a preferred rate elsewhere). i do know i won't wait 2 years before changing cell phone providers. lol. :-) yeah, i love the idea of having choices...what a great country this is!

    I skimmed your post.

I recommend going ahead and giving Verizon Wireless a try. They have options. I recommend getting somewhat of a nice, 3G phone that may be global. They offer several phones which you can easily use internationally. Try the Blackberry Storm. It is an all touch device with a few extra goodies. It does have a SIM Card, but while in the United States, it will operate under the CDMA technology, only...since it is a Global Phone.

With the Storm, you can get the best of both worlds...The largest coverage area worldwide compared to any other U.S. carrier and the best coverage in the United States...

They also give you a 30 day test drive...where if you decide (within 30 days) that you dislike their service, they'll pay for the calls you made!
