Adding you as an existing subscriber could have an adverse effect upon your father's rollover minute balance. If you are added to your father's FamilyTalk plan as a new subscriber, there would be no effect upon the rollover minute balance.

It can be done either way, but you and your father should consider the consequences of both options.

Do not get the individual plan first. Let your father add you as a new subscriber unless the pricing of the phone requires you to have an individual voice plan. There would be a $36.00 activation fee for an individual subscriber or a $26.00 activation fee to add a secondary line to a FamilyTalk voice plan.

To help you understand the consequences of starting your individual line first and then joining your father's Familytalk plan, let me give you an example. Suppose your father has accumulated 2000 rollover minutes. He is on the 700 minute FamilyTalk plan. He see that he is not using his Anytime minutes so he adds your line to a FamilyTalk plan with 1400 minutes. His 2000 rollover minutes will be reduced to 1400 rollover minutes because you are an existing subscriber. If he adds you to his FamilyTalk before you create an individual plan, he will be able to keep the entire 2000 rollover minutes. They would be available for all members in the FamilyTalk group to use.
