I have an AT&T Pay As You Go plan and want to buy a better unlocked phone. Can I use all of the 'smart phone' features with this plan, such as Wi-Fi, and at what cost. Obviously, the AT&T salespersons want me to go into one of their pricier plans, but I would prefer to stay where I am.

Re: PayAs You Go questions
Wi-Fi use is independent of any telephone service. The carrier does not control its use. AT&T, the parent company, offers free basic Wi-Fi to users with a BlackBerry data plan or iPhone data plan. Those plans are not available with prepaid service. There are reports on other forums that AT&T Mobility blocks data access with PDAs, iPhones and BlackBerry devices on prepaid data plans.
