A new smartphone is in the works by AT&T and TerreStar. The phone is called TerreStar Genus and is a hybrid smartphone with access to AT&T's network as well as TerreStar's satellite network.

If you've ever had trouble getting a cellular service in a certain area or just have a bad reception, users of the TerreStar Genus can connect to the satellite network when no cellular one is not available.

    Features of the smartphone are:
    satellite voice and data capabilities
    Windows Mobile
    GSM/GPRS/EDGE and UMTS/HSDPA connectivity
    2.6 inch touchscreen display
    full QWERTY keyboard
    Wi-Fi
    GPS
    Bluetooth.

Only government and small business customers will be able to get the TerreStar Genus beginning the first quarter of 2010, but AT&T does plan on bringing something similar to the rest of us.

no mention of realease date or pricing have been mentioned as of yet.
