AT&T is competing with Verizon on its calling plans and therefore is cutting their unlimited calling and data plans down to $100 a month, which is a drop from $130 a month. AT&T followed in dropping their calling plan when Verizon dropped theirs from $100 to $70. AT&T's unlimited text messaging will costs an extra $20.
Although both companies are lowering their calling prices, they both will require subscribers to purchase a data service due to the growing popularity and use of the internet capable phones. AT&T is requiring their subscribers to buy at least $20 extra a month for texting and/or data services for any mid to high tier phones. This is still $10 more than what Verizon is requiring as Verizon requires only a $10 a month data plan if downloading video and multimedia content.
This cut in fees is effective as of today.

I still think AT&T should lower their prices even more. Verizon needs to create some sort of HSDPA network like the other CDMA providers did in Canada.
