My wife and I have had AT&T cell phone service for many years and our current phones for 2 years (Samsung and Nokia). About a week ago both phones quit connecting while here at the house. Drive 1/4 mile away and both connect and work fine. The nearest tower is right across the street about 600 feet away. Both phones show max bars connectivity. Neighbors on either side of us, both with AT&T, have no problems.
I put an amplifier on our cable tv line abut a week ago but I disconnected it and that did not cure the problem. I also bought a new TV with the QAM digital tuner but unplugging the TV did nothing to change the problem. AT&T is clueless and was supposed to send a tech rep out yesterday but no one showed.
Oh yeah, my son about 1/2 mile away is having similar problems.

Re: cell phones not reaching tower / not connecting
Sim cards went bad in two different phones at the exact same time? That sounds suspiciously like AT&T downloaded something to our phones that was incompatible with the old cards. The tech rep did download 2 or 3 different things while checking the phones. The tech rep never suggested bad Sim cards until I brought that subject up.
Also, my son was having the identical problem (he lives 1 mile away) and a new Sim card cured his problem too.
What is AT&T putting on our phones without our permission?
