    Hello,

I’m going to be moving abroad in 2 weeks and therefore need to end my contract with AT&T. I’m hoping to avoid having to pay an early termination fee and wanted to see if anyone would like to take over my contract. The advantages for you if you were to do this are:

    • No signup fee (as opposed to starting a new contract with AT&T)
    • You would only have to complete the remaining 6 months of my contract (as opposed to locking yourself in for a full 2 years)
    • I’m due for a phone upgrade in October which you would inherit

Here are the features of my current plan (which you could change of course)

    • Plan Name: Nation 450 with Rollover
    • Monthly Cost: 39.99
    • Anytime Minutes: 450
    • Night/Wknd Minutes: 5000
    • Mobile to Mobile: Unlimited
    • Texting: Unlimited
    • Data: 2GB

Let me know if this would be of interest. My name is Dan and I can be contacted at casepractice2 at gmail dot com.

If you only have six months left in your contract the Early Termination Fee should be discounted. I believe the Early Termination Fee goes down each month. Since you only have six months left it shouldn't cost much. You can also try to explain to AT&T that you're leaving the country and see if they can waive the fee for you.

Re: Anyone Want My AT&T Contract?

It's not a bad idea. But I've spoken with AT&T and there's still a pretty significant termination fee. I also raised the issue of the fact that I don't have a choice since I'm moving out of the country and apparently the only exemption they have for not charging a termination fee is for military service. Pretty annoying since I've moved abroad before and I know that Verizon (my previous service provider) let me out of my contract when I was able to send them a copy of my contract from my employer proving that I had to move abroad for a job.

Anyway, open to other ideas if you have any...

The Early Termination Fee would be $145 for eighteen months of a contract completed if you had upgrade to a smartphone.. That is less than two months of:
    Voice Service $39.99
    Data $25.00
    Messaging $20.00
    Total $84.99

If you added a smartphone on your own, the Early Termination Fee would be determined by the basic phone to which you upgraded. That would come out to $72. If you switched to a basic phone with no features, you could get your monthly cost down to the voice service only. If someone wanted no contract, why would they grab the tail end of your contract and then sign a new contract in six months? They could get a new contract now without waiting for six months or more. So the future upgrade is no incentive to assume your contract.

There is an $18 fee if the Transfer of Billing Responsibility is done through Customer Service. If done completely online, there is no transfer fee.

This is the biggest reason I always go for no contract phone service. The early termination fees are absolutely ridiculous, in my opinion. At least AT&T allows transfer of billing responsibility. Not all carriers do.
