Help - AT&T 5840 and 5800

I placed the 5800 handset on 5840 base and battery for 5800 charged for more then 1 day. But there is no menu display on 5800 screen. The blue color round ring on 5800 handset is blinking continuously and G24 is on screen. Sometime I am able to see the AT&T logo on handset screen. I am getting no idea what need to do. Atleast I should be able to see the menu on 5800 screen eve though phone do not work. What's going wrong with this phone? No idea no clue only confusion and frustration. Please help.
