Not sure, but similar errors have been rectified by a reinstall of the software. (May, or may not work in your case)

ok I've got ahold of qpst. any help on what to do next?

Use QPST's EFS explorer, and a window will popup with a phone listed. If you double click that entry, and it connects, you're in luck. If not, then you'll need the MSL for your phone. Which you'd need to enter in the SPC field in place of the six zeroes before connecting.
Unfortunately, I don't know the MSL code for a US Cellular 8910, but someone who has one without the BitPim problem you're having, should be able to retrieve the code from their phone via the nvm_0002 process. (Copy file to HD and open in Notepad)
Most people use BitPim to get it, then post it online for others, and use it for QPST from then on.
If you don't know it, start a thread asking for it, someone will eventually post it.
