Does anyone know anything about this product?
Received a letter from Optus offering free upgrade to these "SIM Backup
Cards". Apparently it offers twice daily backup of phone number data to
some central database.
I am not sure what this is but I suspect there may be a charge
associated with the backup process.
Anyone know anything about this? I couldn't find any info on their web
site.

Sounds like a telemarketing scam. Go ahead, if you want every company in
India to have the names and numbers of your entire phonebook!

Interesting that their Privacy Policy is currently 404...
(bottom of page, Privacy, then Optus Privacy Policy)
Hmm. P'raps updating it to say "whatever info you gives us, we keeps and
sells".

Re: Optus SIM Backup Card
Have you thought to call customer service???
it's amazing what you find out by calling your service provider.
SIM back up is a new service offerd by Optus that enable you to back up
your sim phone book contacts on their website portal Optus Zoo where
you can sync up you sim with zoo so that if you lose your sim you have
aback-up of your contacts that can be easily and automatically
downloaded to a new sim when a replacement is activated.
For that reason, Optus are currently offering free SIM replacements
until March 06 if you lose or want to upgrade your current sim.
A quick call to Customer Service would given you this info.

How many people actually store numbers on a SIM card these days?
I currently have 255 contacts in my phone, each with up to 3 numbers or
even more plus email, web, address and other details. No SIM card would
even come close to that capacity!

I've seen inexpensive little devices at markets that will back up a sim card.

Re: Optus SIM Backup Card
The new 64k SIMS hold up to 500 entries, more than enough for the
average user.

Hrmm... It appears to be a feature of GSM? The network can pull data from
the SIM?
Can anyone actually provide any further info? i.e. instead of posturing
about calling Optus or pointing to the website which, as the OP suggested,
provides very little actual explanation.

It's more often amazing what you CAN'T find out by calling the monkeys.

Thanks for elaborating on what the OP already implied. Are you actually
capable of offering any useful information?

Never "quick" and hardly "service", even less "info".

Thank goodness someone *finally* posted a link to the website.

Can you please reword this technical explanation so we can all understand
it? We're not all genuises you know.

Watch it or you'll go blind, child.

But are they structured to hold the sort of info Simon's talking
about - "email, web, address and other details"?
Last time I had a look at GSM 11.11 (and GSM 07.07), name and
number in 1:1 correlation was all I found for SIM phonebook
storage.
