Ah, yet another faulty 6280. So very very glad I didn't end up buying this
one.

As far as the picture transfer goes, why not use the supplied USB cable?

there was no supplied USB cable with my 6230 and it will cost more than $70
to get one. I paid $480 for this phn just over 12 months ago and nokia want
to charge me $50 just to look at my 6230. As I live in the bush and I am in
a wheelchair the phn will be away for a while being fixed and I will be
without any way of communicating if I am in trouble so I thought I would see
if there were any ideas in this newsgroup on a way to access bluetooth
before I send it to the Nokia service centre in Melbourne.

In reply to my post on the nokia ng, the following was suggested:

"That sometimes happens to my 6230, but only affects the bluetooth on
selection. I'll try to use the bluetooth and suddenly find it has
turned itself to off. No matter how many times I try to turn it on, it
still remains off.

It is not the button, rather it seems to be some fault in the firmware.
The only fix I have found is to take out the battery and leave it out
long enough for it to loose the time and date, a matter of a minute or
so, then putting it back together."

So i will try this, also, maybe I can email the pics to myself?

My apologies - when I replied to your original message I misread your phone
model as the recently-released 6280, which is the one that's been having
all manner of technical and mechanical problems. The 6280 does come with a
USB cable, however I'm quite familiar with Nokia's ripoff pricing for data
cables for their older phones (the "official" cable for my 3100 sold for a
ludicrous $150 - I bought a "pirate" one instead).

That might be a solution, but check your provider's GPRS rates first...!

unwilling or unable to fix.

I'm sorry, but when a company as big and as reputable as Nokia let a phone
out onto the market with so many faults, the best thing to do is AVOID.
Seeing people in forums desperately trying to make themselves feel better
about buying the 6280 ("hey, it only reboots on SOME calls" or "yeah, the
slider's loose but hey, nothing's perfect") is very telling.

Yup. I certainly won't be buying one.

My 2110e has been plodding along for about 10 years now, but the "5"
key recently stopped working, so whenever I want to call a number
which has a "5" in it, I have to go into the phonebook, find another
number with a "5" in it, delete the surrounding numbers, and then
"build" the number I want to call around the pre-existing "5".

I've been putting up with this for about a year, so I think it's
*almost* time to replace it :-)

But I won't be getting a 6280.

I thought you upgraded to a Philips Diga with a non-functional send button?

And why do people continue to refer to the green and red buttons as "send"
and "end" even though the analogue network was dissolved in 1992? Even user
manuals do it - must leave some people wondering where the hell the "end"
key is.

If the user manual refers to it, as such, then they MUST the Send and End
keys.

The phone manufacturer gets to decide what the buttons are called. Novel
idea, eh?
