Michael,
I noticed you have been active here (arguing again with Rod Speed) so would
you mind enlightening us about Telstra's progress with their 850MHz UMTS 3G
network?.
The only information I obtained in here so far was "~3 months" to go.
A person with your inside knowledge should know what's happening ...

Is ~3 months not the answer you want? Which answer *will* you accept?

It's not a case of accepting an answer. I asked Michael to enlighten us
about the progress, now whether this entails confirming/denying the
abovementioned time period is up to him, not me. Let's see what he has to
say.

The bases are more than 1/2 built.

Until its up and running?

Re: 3G Michael
"Until its up and running?"
Yes Michael. Are they considering a staged opening? ie when it reaches say
80% deployment.

Not even Telstra know the exact date yet.

No network is *ever* 100% completed. It will be released when Telstra
want to release it. Suffice to say, it's not far away and there will be
a big launch (offers/advertising).

"No network is *ever* 100% completed"
That depends what you mean by "completed". By "80%" I meant of the defined
implementation. It appears your logic relies on the implementation being
expanded to meet further requirements.

yes they do.
And the network is better than 50% done

Re: 3G Michael
yes - but it is not for public consumption.
There were some comments made at the 3GSM conference in Madrid a few
months ago by some Telstra people that are pretty accurate.

I'll chuck this in to muddy the waters...
Telstra executives said at Senate Estimates in May that:
(a) Telstra would operate the two networks (CDMA and 850MHz UMTS/3G)
concurrently for no longer than 6 months; and
(b) the earliest Telstra would switch off the CDMA network would be
end January 2008.
So if you follow that reasoning, the earliest Telstra will commence
operating 850MHz UMTS/3G is July 2007.
Link to the relevant Hansard is below. The interesting bits are pages
49-51. Note that the file is about 1.2 MB.

I was under the impression that you were well informed.
