Not around here, they're not.

In any case "soot" isn't a problem. All chimney emissions usually rise
to around 1,000m or more. The plumes from around here tend to disappate
around Bass Strait during prevailing westerlies. Or if there's an
easterly blowing, the plume has been tracked to as far as Ferntree Gully
in Melbourne's east.
