Actually the number of jobs are increasing in some places, lowering in some
    inefficient places.

The net effect is a loss of several hundred jobs -this still means that
Telstra give far more back into the Aussie Economy than any other foreign
    muck.

A call centre is a call centre, they service all the country. Telstra spend
millions to build purpose built call centres only to close them. That is the
    only inefficiency.

How can several hundred unemployed be good for the economy? It only
reinforces the jobs of centrelink employees.

Crikey! I'll have to dust off the old "raw prawn" MP3 file and get it back into
    circulation.

Hate it when things like that are released before time.

Nope, it isnt the only inefficiency. The other obvious inefficiency is not offshoring.

With an unemployment rate of 2% in some areas, the economy is fine regardless.

    > It only reinforces the jobs of centrelink employees.

Wrong when the unemployment rate is that low, it releases
more monkeys where employers are desperate for monkeys.

What does it matter if 100 get made redundant and 120 are hired in Syd?

    Net gain = 20 jobs

    > Soon it will be "welcome to Telstra. This is Sajib from Bangalore"

Not for a couple of years at least

Nope, most of the call centres being closed are in existing Telstra
buildings, they are not "purpose built" call centres

It's chickenfeed compared to the number of people (inc. contractors) who
work for Telstra. There are still 43 000 full time, and there would be AT
    LEAST THAT, in contractors.

Telstra is still an 85 000 workforce, no matter what they tell you

Newcastle is the first to come to mind. Cost millions only a few years ago.

Those arent necessarily the most efficient places.

They've got that. Our unemployment rate is lower than Sydney's.

Anyone who wants a job can get one when the unemployment rate is 4.5%

    >> Telstra is still an 85 000 workforce, no matter what they tell you

Launceston was a purpose built centre in a greenfields site.

Little Jimmy, get some facts together, I am not effected one little bit, and
    I'm not from Tassie.
If someone has their family and a home in one part of the country, why
should they want to go traipsing around the country side? Also, why would
anyone want to live thousands of miles from nowhere, in the most isolated
    city in the world?
