INTERNET users in Geelong and the Surf Coast can now tap into high-speed
broadband in a major breakthrough for the region.

Telstra yesterday activated its ADSL2+ broadband at 19 local telephone
exchanges, providing customers with the fastest available speeds of 20
    megabits per second.

Telstra Business Group managing director Deena Shiff said regional users
could now get fixed speeds which were previously only available in capital
    cities.

"As well as being able to do everyday online activities a whole lot faster,
it also opens up the door to a whole new range of communications
opportunities such as video conferencing," she said.

Optimal ADSL2+ speeds are up to 350 times faster than a standard 56kbps
dial-up connection, and up to 70 times faster than a standard 256kbps ADSL
connection. Speeds will depend on the users' distance from the exchange.

Across Australia, the telco giant will switch on the service at more than
    900 telephone exchanges.

The new exchanges will serve more than 2.4 million users across the country,
including more than 600,000 homes and businesses in Victoria.

Bare faced lie. Nothing even remotely resembling anything
like a 'breakthru', let alone anything like a major one.

Well whoopy ****ing do. And charge like a wounded bull for the use of them too.

    > Telstra Business Group managing director Deena Shiff

Must be a wog with a name like that.

    > said regional users could now get fixed speeds which were previously only available in capital cities.

Well whoopy ****ing do. Pity how much you slug them to use those.

    > "As well as being able to do everyday online activities a whole lot faster,

    Lie.

    Lie.

    > Optimal ADSL2+ speeds are up to 350 times faster than a standard 56kbps dial-up connection,

    Irrelevant.

    > and up to 70 times faster than a standard 256kbps ADSL connection.

Pity you should be comparing it with the 8Mb that adsl1 can do, ****wit.

    > Speeds will depend on the users' distance from the exchange.

So your ratios are a bare faced lie for everyone.

    > Across Australia, the telco giant will switch on the service at more than 900 telephone exchanges.

And with any luck the ACCC will force them to resell those too
and force telstra to charge the resellers a much lower fee too.

Whoopy ****ing do. And **** all will bother to pay your outrageous ripoff charges.

Corse it is. The availability of ADSL2 in this country has multiplied by
say, 100 times, in the last four months

    ADSL2 isnt faster than ADSL1?

Then dont choose to connect to it.

That's not a "breakthru" (****ty *****ing - septic no doubt).

Could have been done some time ago if Tel$tra got off their fat lazy
arse and stopped playing politics for a while.

    Nope.

    > The availability of ADSL2 in this country has multiplied by say, 100 times, in the last four months

Pity that most dont even bother to pay for faster than 256K with adsl1.

They clearly care much more about the reliability and always
on that they get with adsl than they do about the speed.

In spades with the ripoff prices telstra is charging for adsl2+

    >>> "As well as being able to do everyday online activities a whole lot faster,

It aint A WHOLE LOT FASTER. Just faster.

Irrelevant to that complete pack of lies about any purported
'breakthru' when adsl1 has been available for years now.

Bit hard for Telstra to do that, seeing as Rudd's national broadband
network is a big political issue.

Wrong. All they had to do was to build FTTN without demanding that
they didnt have to resell that at prices determined by the ACCC.

They didnt demand a return of 28% nett before doing adsl1 either.
