Get a wifi stick that you can plug into their router and take it with you.

And that's where you lost me. The wife's laptop has wifi, as does the N95. But
the problem is finding the wifi hotspots when you get there. If there aren't
any, then it's not going to work.

It does if you add wifi to the modem/router thats in the house she's staying in.
Its more usual to just get a wifi modem/router, but it isnt the only way to do wifi.

Ah, the light just went on.
When you talked about adding a "stick" I presumed that you were talking about a
PC card or USB wireless adaptor. I don't know of any such devices that you can
plug into a router.
Doesn't mean that they don't exist, though.
But then if you can plug one of them into a router you'd be able to plug the
laptop in using a network cable.
