Missus just video called me from Pommyland. She has a pre-paid Vodaphone
SIM in
her Nokia N95i. We were on for 1.5 mins and it cost her 4lbs. (I dunno the
proper symbol).
That's around 4.4p a second. Or 2.66ilbs a minute. Or in Aussie terms around
$5.50 a minute.
You wouldn't want to get on for long, hey?
I set my VOIP up last night before I went to work so I could call her from work
via it using a service called "Follow Me" where if my VOIP number is called then
it automatically forwards to a programmed number. In this case it's her number
over there.
The Mynetfone plan that I'm on allows for a few free calls before I start
getting charged. The call that I made to her cost me ten cents and we chatted
for probably 20 mins or so.
I can still recall $1.70/min calls to the US back in the early to mid 90s. These
days it can cost you **** all for the same call. While mobile calls overseas are
still expensive VOIP and free Wifi can largely negate that.
Technology is a marvelous thing.
