OPTUS has suffered its third network disruption in as many weeks with users
experiencing outages on the
3G mobile network.
The carrier's network in Brisbane has been hit the hardest, with users
reporting intermittent outages since last night.
Optus told The Courier-Mail a "software error" occurred between 6am and 7am
today and was fixed by 12pm.
However as of 4pm, Brisbane customers were still complaining of regular
network drop-outs, and the inability to receive calls.
These network issues are the third Optus has had since the 14th of July,
when all of the carrier's fixed line, mobile, and internet connections in
Queensland were completely disabled by a cable fault.
On the first of August, users in Melbourne and Sydney experienced
intermittent outages on the carrier's
3G mobile network. Optus didn't
explain what the source of the issue was.
A Nokia expert will fly over from Finland to work on the problem, according
to technology website ZDNet.com.au.
Optus has around 1.5 million
3G subscribers in Australia.
UPDATE 4:45pm - An Optus spokesperson said the
3G network is expected to be
stable within the next hour. He said the issue , caused by a software fault
and subsequent network overload, occured "primarily in Brisbane" and was
most recently exacerbated by the mobile network's "peak hour" between 4pm
and 6pm. Optus is working with Nokia to fix the fault.
