Dialup Networking with Bell?

Does anyone have experience with using a bell cellphone as a wireless modem? ie. your laptop uses your cellphone (via either bluetooth or usb cable) to get an internet connection. Some research yielded the following:

Option1: QNC (quick network connection dialup): dial #888, userid/password = qnc/qnc. Speed = 14400baud, cost = $.25/minute + airtime

Option2: 1x Dialup: dial #777, userid=<your_10_digit_cellphone_number>@1x.bell.ca , password = <your original voicemail PIN>. Speed = 115200???, cost =???

Option3: EVDO. How to use?

Never heard of option 1

Option 2 is correct, at the 1X Data pay-per-use rate assuming you have no data plan.

Ev-DO is the same way as option 2, if you're in an Ev-DO area, there's nothing special you have to do.

As for cost, I'd phone Mobility and find out.

Re: Dialup Networking with Bell?

We use option #2 daily at work, except you don't have to enter a username/password. Your device is already programmed with these. As Abom states, it will automaticly use the fastest available speed, and automatically drop down to 1xRTT if it has to. One thing to note is if your in a "fringe" area, you might see EVDO but not be able to connect due to your distance to the nearest ariel. So you should try to force your device to 1xRTT and see if that works.

As for cost, this depends on your data plan on your phone. So I'd call customer service and see what plans and charges are available.

Does anyone know the charges for using your phone as a modem?
I have the unlimited mobile browser ($7/month) but I understand that that doesn't cover using it as a modem?
