Depends what network you're on. If you're in an area where EvDO coverage is available, you'll experience broadband-like speeds. If you're in an area where there is only 1X coverage, then it'll be similar to dialup speeds.

The speed of EVDO is anywhere between 450-800 kilobits per second, where 1X is close to 50-70 kbps. You'll gain a factor 10 when using EVDO.

Rogers has 1GB of data for $65, and $1 per additional MB. If you use more than 1GB Bell might be cheaper.

This may be an old thread, but hold your horses when it comes to the 'unlimited' access for 75$ through Bell.
Last November, I signed up with Bell's EVDO access, as it's the only 'high speed' access where I live (rural area). I got the Novatel U720 modem, and signed up for the three year, $75 'unlimited' access package.
I LOVED it! (why the past tense...more to come)...
It was way faster than dial up, and I experience better than average download upload speeds (ave 1.5Mbps Down, 300-400k up). I use this to connect to my office so I can work form home...I was really happy with the service, and the plan I was on. Then Bell Canada reared it's ugly head...again.

I got a letter from their Customer "Client Care" department, saying that I use too much bandwidth dated March 5th, 2008, and that I would have to call them before XXXX date to arrange a different package, or face diconnection. I was confused...I had an 'Unlimited' E-mail and Internet package!!!

So I called them, and the short of it is, they 'no longer offer this package' (I was on it for only 3 1/2 months), and I would need to sign up with thier tiered plan, because I use too much bandwidth...my data 'consumption' last month was aroung 3gigs. So to make it fair for other users in this area, they have to charge me more.

So now, for a 5gig monthly transfer limit, I'm paying $125 amonth (+ 911 fees, monthly access fees, taxes etc..)...needless to say I'm PISSED at Bell...this is only a money grab, as my service isn't going to get faster, and in the area I live in, I doubt there's any other users who use the service here.

So look into Telus...they still have the 'unlimited' package..I definietly am.
