So I know this new Bell/Telus network will be up and running before the Olympics... what I would like to know is if I can take my current phone with a SIM card in it (currently with Robbers) and have my # ported to the Bell system and use this new network with my phone? (Sony Ericsson K800i)
I want to jump to the Bell network for a corporate plan I can get through work but I really do not like the selection of Bell phones and there's no point in paying $400 for a new phone to save $10/month.

I don't believe you can use foreign non-Bell hardware on their network, even with the new HSDPA network.

It will be interesting to see if we can use unlocked phones on the new network.. I'm hoping that we can because what Canada really needs is some DECENT competition in the carrier market.
Why don't we have $99/month unlimited everything in Canada?Pat Hebert

Re: Bell HSPDA?
* The following technologies/standards AREN'T the same:
2G: GSM/GPRS/EDGE
3G: WCDMA/UMTS/HSPA
4G: E-UTRA/LTE.
*TELUS and Bell HAVE NEITHER ANNOUNCED NOR INTEND TO BUILD ANY GSM network.
*Their upcoming HSPA networks will be deployed in the existing Cellular (850MHz) and PCS (1900MHz) spectrum, just like what the existing CDMA2000/EVDO Rev. 0/A networks are deployed in.
*A GSM-only phone (e.g. Quadband GSM 850/900/1800/1900) WON'T WORK on the upcoming TELUS or Bell HSPA networks.
*A 3G capable phone w/ only WCDMA/UMTS/HSPA 2100 WON'T WORK on the upcoming TELUS or Bell HSPA networks.
*A Multi-mode/band phone that INCLUDES the 3G WCDMA/UMTS/HSPA 850/1900 (e.g. Quadband GSM + 3G w/ 850/1900) WILL BE REQUIRED.
*RIM BlackBerry Storm 9530 offered by BELL, for example, DOESN'T support 3G WCDMA/UMTS/HSPA 850/1900, just 2100 ONLY!
Right now the only phone that Bell has that would work on telus and rogers is the blackberry tour which you need to have it unlocked.
i dont know the specs on the Sony Ericsson K800i but assuming it follows the rules above you could quit rogers and use it with bell or telus

Re: Bell HSPDA?
Sony Ericsson K800i
2G Network GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network UMTS 2100
It does not support HSDPA and since Bell/Telus will not have a GSM network.
I work for Solo, a sister company of Bell, and they have been making sure that we don't tell the customers that we will run GSM because we won't.

Re: Bell HSPDA?
I have a Nokia N97 phone from Hong Kong which is 900/1900/2100 which I think it won't work with bell 3g, Yesterday I went to Bell shop and have a Bell SIM insert to my phone and it work! It show 3.5G on my left hand corner and the reception is not bad(better than roger in my house) I've been search through bell site enter my IMEI and it said not compatible and I been search via web that many said it won't support cause my N97 is 900 not 850 (american version do 850) . Then I insert the same Bell SIM to my wife's Nokia 6260 slide which is pretty the same spec as my N97 it do hspa 900 not 850. And it work too! It also show 3.5G on the phone. When I use both phone in HK it only show 3G. It able to talk and sms but I did not try the internet yet casue I don't have that add on. I am very confuse about the different 850 and 900 which a lot of people say you have to had Hspa 850 to work with bell but I don't! Hope this help you guys.
