Are any of you using the 8330 as a connecton for your laptops? I would like to know how it performs for you. I have a wireless card, but if I get the 8330, the boss wants to pull the wireless card.

I'm not sure about the 8330 ut I have an 8130 with Alltel. User name and password varies from phone services. If you have Alltel I can tell you how you can do it. If not, I can see about whatever phone service you have and see.

yes, you can use it as a modem. yes, you do need a data plan, and yes your connection will be a little better than dial up. Wireless card is better as they offer faster connections.

Re: 8330 as a laptop wireless connecton
i'm actually using it right now. it's a lot slower than your regular home broadband connection but it works great for stuff like e-mail, messaging and the like. things like youtube will work, you'll have to wait a lot longer than you're probably accustomed to. forget about gaming online especially if it's games that are highly dependent on ping.
if anything though, it's great to have mobile internet access almost anywhere so your decision really depends on what you do with it, but don't expect too much.

The answer is yes!!!
step 1) download sprint smartview Sprint Software Downloads - Smartphones - BlackBerry® Curve™ 8330
step 2) install the software
step 3) connect the usb cable to your bb curve
step 4) run sprint smartview ( it will take some time to recognize the bb)
step 5) click on the tower directly under where it says sprint on the left hand corner
the program will tell you if you are connected
step 6) open the browser of your choice
there are no extra charges as long as you have a data plan with sprint. I am using my bb as a modem to post this reply and have been using this for months. I was shocked to learn this as I used to be a csr for sprint.

I use my 8330 as my main internet connection through my laptop, compared to a wireless card that a friend has from VZW its about the same as far as speed goes.
