BlackBerry Curve 8330 MMS picture mail

Alright, so I have the black curve 8330 titanium. I had a question regarding MMS. Is picture mail the only way that I can receive pics? I would rather get pics directly to my phone, and not through pic mail. An assistant told me that their was a way to change that, but I still don't understand how to do this if possible. If someone can reply to this matter, please do.
