custom mp3 ringtones help

is there a fast free way to make my own ringtones? i heard that i can use the motorola phone tools to do this but my phone is not recognized and there is no other way to open the actual program without it... so im just wondering if there are other programs i can use i tried audacity but it wont recognized the file when i transfer it to my BlackBerry
