I haven't done it myself, but I know people who have. Beyond unlocking the device (the GSM portion is locked to Vodafone) I don't know or think they did anything spectacular. Some places also sell the Vodafone version unlocked. Either way, you'll be limited to 2G/EDGE speeds.
