Mark all text messages/e-mail read
Just in case you haven't figured out how to "Mark all read" in your SMS or e-mail inbox, simply select the date and then select "Mark Prior Opened".

Also, if you want to sync up with what you've read in an e-mail account you can hit the menu button and select "Reconcile Now".
