Handset Chip = Fast Downloads

LG has created the worlds first ever handset chip, for LTE technology.

This chip allows data speeds to exceed the current fastest speed, by eight times!

This 4G technology, LTE--Long-Term Evolution Data--is still under development. In the United States, the first wireless carrier to offer this 4G technology will be Verizon Wireless. It will be released in testing markets within the last quarter of 2009. The full out, national service, will be released sometime in 2010. With the LG Chip enhanced and ready for action, this is proof that the service isn't far off. LTE intends on competing with the WiMax service. Companies supporting LTE: Verizon Wireless, Vodafone, Qualcomm, and Japan's KDDI Corp. WiMax is supported by Sprint PCS, Clearwire, Samsung Electronics, Motorola, Intel, and Clearwire. You should notice that the WiMax ran service has a lot more sponsors. Keep in mind those sponsors are considered "smaller" than the LTE sponsors. For example, Vodafone is larger than Sprint, Clearwire, Intel combined (in terms of money made per year).

The first LTE device is on the horizon. With the LG Chip, LG has achieved downloading speeds of 60 Mbps (megabits per second) and upload speeds of 20 Mbps. Compare this to the current, fastest internet technology on a wireless device---HSDPA. This technology can have maximum download speeds of 7.6 Mbps. Wow...can't wait until LTE. This technology is also supposed to allow users to view/download high definition (HD) videos to their device without the need to buffer.
