How to Make Cheap Cell Phone International Calls

I've poked around in the forums and found some clues here and there about how to avoid the cost of direct international dialing through the major US carriers and found that most people are using calling cards. I'm creating this blog as a resource where new and interesting methods to make cheap international calls from a cell phone can be shared. Please feel free to join in

    Some international carriers are beginning to offer free downloads for smartphones that will detect when an international call is being made and automatically route the call to a 'dial-around' access number for completion over their network.
