HEADSET: Nokia BH-900 vs. Jawbone

I'll give details below, but my question is:

** How does the Nokia BH-900 compare to the Aliph Jawbone? **
** Is the Aliph Jawbone a Bluetooth 2.0 device or is it 1.2? **

I just broke my headset of over a year old. It was a Nokia BH-900 and it performed well for the most part. I've had two other headsets in the past and they performed much worse. They were a Belkin headset and a Motorola something. The only complaint I had about the Nokia (just like I had with all other headsets I've tried) is the range issue. I use my headset with a laptop doing VoIP and often I am sitting about 10 to 12 feet away from my laptop. When that happens, there could be static noise because I "too far" away. But it's only about 10 feet and I'm in line of sight with the laptop. I am not behind metal drawers and so forth. There is nothing between me and the laptop except air (and perhaps other wifi signals).

So, range was an issue with the Nokia BH-900 but that doesn't seem to be unusual given my experiences with other bluetooth headsets I've tried.

So, now that I'm in the market for a new headset, I'm looking at what other options I can try that would be better than the Nokia BH-900. How does the Aliph Jawbone compare?

I've been trying to figure out if the Aliph Jawbone is a Bluetooth 2.0 device but couldn't. The Nokia BH-900 is definitely a bluetooth 2.0 device.

Thanks!

Re: HEADSET: Nokia BH-900 vs. Jawbone

So I finally received a reply from Aliph, the makers of Jawbone.

1. Jawbone uses Bluetooth 1.2 specification and NOT 2.0
2. Jawbone has a reach of 33ft and audio transmission will still be clear

My thoughts:
1. It's a shame that Jawbone uses 1.2 technology. My Nokia BH-900 (the one I broke) uses 2.0 technology. If I buy the Jawbone, will this be a downgrade from my Nokia? I'm wondering...

2. To be sure, Jawbone's packaging says that the range of transmission is 33ft. In my experience with three other devices (Nokia BH-900, Belkin, Motorola something) they all had a range of less than 10feet. For the Nokia, above 8 feet and sometimes less than that, I start to hear static noise. Not good. And all these distances are much less than what printed on the package.

The Nokia BH-900's clarity is good enough for me. I don't speak in noisy environments so Jawbone's noise reduction technology will mostly be lost on me. But, I don't find the Nokia BH-900's range (or any other bluetooth headset I've tried) to be acceptable.

Any thoughts?

Wondering if anyone has experience with the Jawbone with their laptop or cell at a distance of say 10 feet plus.

I've tried the Jawbone headset and it is just not the headset for me. Maybe you should consider the Motorola MOTOPURE H12 ... you can check out a review on it at this website at blog.gammoth.com and then search the MotoPURE H12 and it will come up. It gives a good review and I think it is a better option than the Jawbone. Motorola typically makes a great headset ... and the Jawbone isn't the most flattering.

I have a Jawbone 1.2 and a BH-900 2.0 and have 60+ foot line of sight range on both using a Nokia 6555 phone. I actually like the BH-900 headset a little better than the Jawbone for clarity but both perform well and are comfortable to me for extended use. I drive 3300 miles per week and use the phone about 7 or 8 hours a day. As for your range issue you may want to try another dongle such as the Linksys USBBT100. One other option you may want to try is to use a USB extension cable to mount your existing dongle a little higher or closer to your sitting position.
