I have been thinking about giving Boost Mobile a try, but the website is a
bit lacking. This is the way I see it, but maybe someone who is using it
can shed some light on it.

The website says that you must "Reboost" your phone every 90 days. Since
the minimum recharge card is $20.00, that means the service will cost you
$6.67 per month if you never use it. Is this in fact the case?

Does it have coverage everywhere Nextel does? The New York state map does
not show anything for upstate New York, however there is Nextel service
there. Also if you look at the Pennsylvania map, you can see it does go
atleast somewhat into upstate NY. It appears to me that the map is only
focused on the New York city area, and not the rest of the state, even
though I would think it is covered.

I see the Direct Connect is charged only on days when you use it. Is this
also true of the wireless web? It clearly says DC is only charged on days
when you use it, but the wireless web simply says 20 cents per day. Is it
20 cents per day only on days you use it, or is it $6.00 per month, and they
just say 20 cents per day because it sounds better?

    Thanks for any info.

    That is correct.

Boost isn't necessarily available everywhere there is Nextel. Not a
factor for me, but for someone else that could be a show-stopper.

When I got aboard last year, they charged for web access (that
includes text messaging) whether you used it that day or not. Judging
from what you say I guess that's still true. To save a little money, I
asked for web to be turned off. But my account has accumulated a fat
surplus, so I may have them turn it on.

I've had to deal with Boost customer service twice. The first time was
because the online phone activation via their web site didn't take,
and the second was to update the expiration date on my credit card.
Both times I got through to native English speakers after a short
wait, and they fixed me right up.

I checked into Boost for the Albany ,NY area. They do not offer any area
code 518 numbers yet,so essential my calls in area would be long distance
out of calling area.I am waiting for the 518 numbers to come available.Boost
is mostly used here by NYC transplants, transients or drug dealers. The
coverage upstate would be same at Nextel Partners/Nextel Direct. And was also
told this by someone who used Nextel and is now on Boost due to job
relocation. Not sure about the Direct Connect conditions or verbage as thier
website is quite lacking.I see and meet more and more people with nextel
phones or boost. Not a Booster user, can't help ya much.
