I was lured in by this $50/month plan, but I'm starting to regret my purchase. The phone I bought is an i335 and it is probably equivalent to a cell phone from 1998. The interface is what's really driving me crazy. It's slow, hard to read, and doesn't even have a calculator or alarm.

I'm going to have to sell this phone on ebay and buy another, but I don't really know much about this boost/nextel relationship, and what types of phones are compatible or flashable to work with my Boost plan.

Can anyone recommend any budget phones that have a normal motorola interface/menu and have normal features... like at least a basic camera, calculator, and alarm?

Also, if I stay in a big city, do you think I will have any problems with coverage? I haven't used my phone since I'm being told it will take 10 DAYS to port my number...

What exactly is IDEN? I had only heard of CDMA and GSM before.

It's an obsolete technology that Nextel/Boost uses. You can Google it if you want more technical details. That said, as an (unwritten) rule, you should always try out a service first with a temporary number or prepaid; make sure the service lives up to your standards/needs, and then switch if it does. If it doesn't live up to your standards you can just cancel.

You can use any Boost Mobile Phone with Boost And Some Nextel phones work as well, In some cases you will put your sim in a nextel and it will ask you for an unlock code, in that case just call boost and they will give you one at no charge.

I live down here in Miami and boost mobile is actually. Their cellphone choices might be a bit tacky, but their coverage/service is on-point.

Definitely a + on price and no dropped calls.

I have the w385 for boost mobile.

I would go with Sprint and get rid of the Nextel, Sprint has a 2-way between phones. it is a lot better than Nextel. I know the phone you are talking about my job purchased them thinking they were getting a good deal, but the phones are crap...sorry to say but they are.

Can anyone recommend a phone that's compatible with Boost, that has a better interface? I'm used to being able to see longer contact names, scroll through faster, and navigate easier.

    emor472,
Do you mean the New Dual SIM CECT i9 ?
Looks similar to an iPhone? I and also fed up with the crappy phones offered by Boost. I used an iPhone for nearly a year until I had to give it up for financial reasons. I miss it dearly . . .

No, he means the Motorola i9. It's more an updated RAZR, than an iPhone clone. Moreover, the CECT i9 is not compatible with Boost. It's a GSM phone, and while it uses SIM cards, GSM and iDEN (the technology Boost uses) are not compatible technologies. Lastly, the only phones that work or will work with Boost are phones that use the iDEN technology, which basically means any Nextel phone. Only Motorola and RIM make phones for Nextel/Boost. If you want better phones, you have to get a different carrier, such as VZW, AT&T, Sprint, or T-Mobile, because, in general, prepaid services have limited phone offerings. Add this to the fact that iDen is a relatively obsolete technology.
