Curious about Boost and CDMA phones

Ok heres the deal...you all arent making sense to me and I havent found my answer so I am throwing this out hopefully to get a answer

1. I am THINKING about switching to boost from Verizon...unlimited is $50? and that it?

2. I have a LG Dare phone that I LOVE more than anything...am I going to be able to get it unlocked and have it work with this service? With verizon I have a a unlimited text/internet deal but only 900 mins...which kinda blows cuz I like actually talking more than texting but text anyways for some reasons.

3. I have pretty much ZERO plans for Nextel type stuff....I hated Nextel when I had it and I have no wish to be back on that in any way. Chirping was annoying, the radio was annoying...the whole thing annoyed me.

4. I am on the understanding that boost is a SIM card compatible phone company? If so can I have a phone such as a Blackberry unlocked? either from like T-Mobile or Verizon?

But with the Boost I would be saving a decent amount of cash it seems....but I dont wanna lose my phone if possible...or switch to one of the other phones that have my eye...Samsung Behold or Memoir both have my eye...and certain models of Blackberrys

thanks alot

Re: Curious about Boost and CDMA phones

While Boost uses SIM cards, the technology is still different and incompatible with anything out there. Unless it's an iDen phone (such as the Nextel phones) it will not work on Boost/Nextel. No T-Mobile, AT&T, VZW, Sprint, GSM, or CDMA based phone will work on Boost. If you go with Boost you have to get a Boost or Nextel phone. Sorry, but that's just how it works. You can unlocked a phone, buy it international, it really doesn't matter. If it does not use the iDen technology and support the band (800MHz) they use, then you're SOL. Moreover, iDen is a proprietary technology developed by Motorola, which is why, with rare exceptions (one or two Blackberry devices, that is), most Boost/Nextel phones are Motorola phones. I hope that helps.

Re: Curious about Boost and CDMA phones

yea that helps. sux but helps. Just tired of verizon high prices. Guess I will just switch myself to T-Mobile then I guess....its what my girl is on and my daughter and many friends. Just wanted something that was more unlimited than mine...thought boost sounded like a good deal but if I am limited on phones then not worth it to me

Just make sure that the coverage/service is equal or, at least, up to your standards. Don't just switch and then realize that you are not satisfied with the new carrier. I can understand the need for cheaper prices, but if cheaper prices comes with poor service, then you might end up getting what you paid for. I would consider Sprint also, because they have relatively inexpensive plans. Or maybe take a long hard look at your Verizon plan and see if you are paying for features or minutes you don't use/need. Verizon is expensive, but in many parts of the country their coverage is superior to the other carriers, so just make sure that if/when you switch you are satisfied not just financially with service as well.

Also, remember you would be unable to use your Dare with T-Mobile.

Re: Curious about Boost and CDMA phones

BTW just so you know, boost mobile also offers a CDMA plan on the sprint network.

it's $50 dollars+tax mine equals to around $54 a month its unlimited text talk and web.

CDMA is the same as verizon meaning the phones don't use sim cards.

it uses sprint service which is pretty good and has good coverage, if there is no coverage you can always roam over unto verizon, but you pay .15 a minute, but you can text for free.

I had the iden plan thats the one that uses sim cards, quality isn't that good and 2. you cannot roam because there are no other iden carriers besides nextel. so if you have no coverage somewhere your stuck with no coverage.

Also, you can activate a sprint phone with boost, but im not sure about verizon. But go buy a regular boost phone which i got the C290 for $40 dollars brand new activate with that, and after that tell them you want to switch phones because yours broke or its not working right.

here are the steps you need to take.

1st... get a boost branded phone and have it turned on
2nd... pick one of their older cdma rate plans.. NOT the $70 unlimited cdma
3rd... wait a week or 2 and call in and say your phone broke or stopped working for whatever odd reason and then give them the esn of a sprint brand phone and they will activate it. they r not supposed to give you any trouble with doing so cause you 1st used a boost phone. (its all about them wanting you to BUY a boost phone 1st...spending $ on their equipment)
4th... after a MONTH into svc, call in and have them upgrade you to the $50 unlimited plan. again, they r not supposed to deny you on this either.

DONE, now you have full sprint nationwide svc with 3G speed (if u have a 3G phone) all for $50 a month

I got lucky and got the $50 dollars unlimited plan 1st day most people have to wait a month or 2.

Now im waiting for my sprint Mogul to get here and im going to switch phones.

Also call this number when you activate 1-877-TLK-MORE the customer service there is designed for new people, and they do more to please the customer. Thats the number i used.

Hope that helps

Re: Curious about Boost and CDMA phones

Hi, i have read your posting and i found it very helpful . I have been with boost for about a year and their plans fit perfect for me since im only 20 and i pay my own bill and all my other expanses. The only problem is that their phones could be better for the price that they put on their phones. I like alot of the newer model phones for like T-Mobile and other carriers but cant use them with my boost plan. I was told that since boost runs on a sim card i can simply put in my sim card to any other phone that holds a sim card and just simply call the company soo they can unlock the phone. I myself dont think that its possible thats why i have'nt tried it yet cuz i dont want to lose any of my information by changing sims. Well recently my boost phone (i776) just soped working. I droped it and now when ppl call me i cant hear anything.. they can hear me but i cant hear them ... as for everything else i can still text with no prob i just cant hear anything ... at the moment i cant afford to buy another phone soo i was curious what other phone besides a boost phone i can use. I have the $50 unlimited plan as well ......
THANKS

Re: Curious about Boost and CDMA phones

if you have a sim card plan which is an iden plan, i think you can activate nextel phones.

If you change to the CDMA plan without a sim card you can use sprint phones

well to clarify boost offers 2 plans.

1. is the IDEN plan, which has walkie talkie, phones on that plan use sim cards. so you can use other nextel phones which also take sim cards.

2. the CDMA plan, does not use phones with simcards.

i believe you told me you have a sim card phone, so you can use any other nextel phone like i335 and phone with an i in it.

Re: Curious about Boost and CDMA phones

hi,i just went thru kinda the same thing. i bought a boost mobile phone trying to save money. it was an iden phone which is on the nextel network. i HATED it!!! service sucked,no texts worked, chirp got on my nerves as well. i did some research and found out that there are still cdma boost mobile phones available online @ ebay. i bought one for 129.00 & it came with a free month of service "only on a new phone & a new number" u can get them cheaper if u want a used one but u wont get the free month & after u pay that 50 dollars,u will come out the same but ur phone isnt new . it does not have chirp service cuz it is on the sprint network & the service & text are MUCH better. the cdma phones DONT have a sim card & boost is not gonna switch a phone over anyways cuz they are not selling anymore cdma phones. they have to honor them if u have the phone. the only difference in the price of service is that on iden phones,u do not have to pay taxes but on cdma service u do which comes out to about 5 dollars more a month. i hope this helps the phone that i have is a W385 by motorola & is just exactly like the moto krazor.
