What do you get when you combine Nextel’s walkie-talkie feature
with a cameraphone? In Sprint Nextel’s hands, you get Direct Send Picture, a new service that lets you send a camphone
pic to someone while you’re on a walkie-talkie call. The pic shows up on both phones without interrupting the call,
letting both parties discuss it. We’re not sure who this is going to be more popular with: teenagers comparing
surreptitiously snapped pics of prospects, or business users discussing joint projects. Given that the service is
currently free, we suspect the former will put it to great use; once it goes to a planned rate of 25 cents per pic next
February, business users are likely to overtake the teens — unless mom and dad are footing the bills, that is.
