Here’s one way to get people to download a virus: disguise it as an antivirus utility. That’s what’s been done with a new variant of the Skulls trojan for Symbian cellphones. Antivirus software company F-Secure reports that the new Skulls-L is camouflaged as an unlicensed version of F-Secure Mobile Anti-Virus. While purists may argue that anyone who downloads commercial software without paying for it gets what they deserve, we have to admit that it’s a pretty clever way to distribute a trojan, and is probably going to hit a lot more innocent users than earlier versions, which were disguised as games.
