Alright, so not only does BusinessWeek’s Stephen Wildstrom confirm what every Engadget reader already knew — namely
that Palm is close to launching a
Windows Mobile-powered
Treo — he also discovered that they had also made a play for PalmSource only
to be outbid by Japanese mobile browser maker Access,
which ended up paying $324 million to snap up the keeper of the Palm OS. Would have been fitting to see the two
companies, which were cleaved apart in 2003, to be rejoined, but Palm doesn’t seem to mind all that much that they lost
the bidding war, Wildstrom notes that they seem relieved that the Palm OS didn’t end up in the hands of one of their
competitors.
