#1 | | Super Guy! | I see people posting their email addresses on this and other sites every single day. Obviously, nobody knows why this is such a bad idea, so I decided to explain this for all our members and guests. First of all, you gotta know a little about spydering: sites such as google and yahoo are constantly searching all over the web to find new sites to add to their search engines. Unfortunately, data miners and spam mailers have caught onto the same idea. So, when you post your email address on any public web site, you are exposing your address to countless spammers, hackers, phishers, pharmers, spyders data miners LOL i love all the crazy names they come up with for this stuff.
This is the basic reason I think so many people get junk mail. I also believe that when someone forwards a forwarded email all over the place, those long strings of email addresses attached to the forwarded email sometimes end up in the hands of people who sell them or use them for spamming purposes, but this last remark is my speculation. The first part about spyders and spammers is a known fact. So please beware and don't post your email publicly! Take advantage of our site's private message function to trade email addies outside of the public eye

#4 | | IT Professional, The Mod! | Actually, most people dont know, but there are programs called Spyders, encoded deep in HTML Source code is your email address, in either Hex or Binary when you post it. Spyders "crawl" sites and pick up this code, decode it, and route it to its mail server. That results in spam. Be careful when posting, the best thing to do is post it like this:
youremail <AT> Provider <DOT> com

"brad729@despammed.com <---replace despammed with hotmail."
i don't know if that's as good as what Rob suggested, but it's an alternatvie.
