....the two things that make a forum run are interesting and intelligent members, and a point or goal. You can get away with having interesting and intelligent members, but no point IF yothink those members will invite all of their friends and stay forever. More logically,to keep it fresh you need a point or goal that will be interesting to people who google it and provide you with a constant stream of new members...
You can get away with having a forum with a point, but it will sit there unnoticed until you get those intelligent and interesting members who spark conversation and keep things rolling...
If you're gonna be a sports forum BE a sports forum, and serve a little porn on the side where people can ignore it if they wanna... but beware the fact that you are one of Umpteengazillion sports forums on the net and without a strong starting memberbase you will likely be one of the upnteengazillion stagnant sports forums!)

Another tip, and I learned this is an effective way of avoiding grammatical errors, is to reword the sentence.
Ex: My friend and I have started a forum, and this info can be applied to our venture.
Suddenly, the question is out of the picture. 
My old H.S. english teacher gave me a lot of high marks for never having the above type of errors, simply because I avoided them. | | | | |
