What is more important: The Phone or The Plan

After reading lots on these forums about cell phones and cell phone plans (providers) I was wondering how everyone buys a phone + plan:

Do you first pick a phone that you like, and then shop around for the best plan, or,
Do you first find the best (cheapest) plan, and then check what phone you can get with it?

For me personally a plan is more important than a phone, it saves you big bucks if you do it right. But as we have seen with the iPhone, thousands of people are willing to switch to AT&T/Rogers/... just to get that specific phone.

Therefore my question, what is more important: The Phone or The Plan?

The provider is the most important thing to me. Followed by the phone, and then choosing the right plan.

The plan silly! I mean which will you be spending constant money on? It only make sense to think that the plan is more important right. The phone is secondary.

agree with ellen on this one, the Provider should be first...I mean what good is a $1000 phone if it doesn't work where you need it to. When you determine that, then you have to ask yourself how are you going to use it? This will determine the best plan...then the phone. I don't think you can "seperate" the three, they are all important to the result, which is what do you need a phone for?

Lol cute, I think most people actually think that their phone is way more important than their plan which is kind of crazy but hey whatever your preference is.

Lucky for me, the plan has no effect whatsoever. So basically the phone is much important , which comes another question, what phone is essential for me?
