The World Health Organization may 31, 2011, confirmed that the use of the cell phone represents a risk to our health long-term, classifying radiation from cell phones as a “carcinogenic risk” and “possibly carcinogenic to humans” after a team of scientists reviewed several studies on cell phone safety. In one of the studies done on mobile phones the report showed a “40% increased risk of gliomas (brain cancer) in the highest category of large consumers (average time: 30 minutes per day for 10 years”). This is a reversal of his previous position that cancer was unlikely caused by cell phones or their base stations and tests had found no convincing evidence for other health effects. Some countries, among them France, have warned against the use of mobile phones especially for children because of the uncertainties of health risk.

The effect of the radiation from cell phones on humans health has become a subject of recent interest due the huge increase in the use of mobile phones around the world (as June 2009, there were more than 4.3 million users around the world.) Mobile phones use electromagnetic radiation in the range of microwave, which some believe to be harmful to human health. There is a lot of existing research, both epidemiological and experimental, in non-human animals and human beings, which most do not show a clear causal relationship between exposure to cell phones and adverse biological effects in humans. This is often paraphrased just to show that must of evidence available does not do any damage to human beings, although a significant number of individual studies suggest there is a relationship or are inconclusive. Other digital wireless systems, such as data communication networks, produce similar radiation.

At least some recent studies have found an association between the use of cell phone and certain types of brain tumors and salivary glands. Lennart Hardell and other authors of a 2009 meta-analysis of 11 journals studies concluded that a cell phone used for at least ten years “approximately doubles the risk of being diagnosed with a brain tumor on the same side of the head where the cell phone is used most.”

In addition, a mobile phone can spread infectious diseases by their frequent contact with the hands. A study showed that pathogenic bacteria are present in about 40% of mobile phones belonging to patients in a hospital and about 20% of cell phones belonging to the staff of the hospital.

Cellphones have become the part and parcel of our lives. We cannot live without the cellphones in the present age. mobile phones are driving life life these days and have become an integral part of our lives. But there is always a way-out, we should try to reduce the usage to a minimum level and reduce our dependence on mobile phones. Secondly we should prefer texting to calling.
