    hey guys

do all cellphones that run on GSM 1900 mhz work with Cingular? In other words, can all phones that run on the Cingular network, work with cingular, even if they do not sell the phone?

can someone explain to me how that works?

    -thanks

okay...let me see if i can explain this...if you have a triband phone that is unlocked, then it will work with any service provider (gsm network).

you can also get a dual band (as long as it covers 1900/900Mhz) range which is what the U.S. uses. Just make sure it's unlocked which will enable you to use a t-mobile phone for example and use it on cingular.

    i hope that helps..

    Correction: The U.S. uses 850Mhz, not 900Mhz

but i thought t-mobile uses 900/1900. so is it just cingular that uses 850? what about at&t? if you get a phone that is 900/1900, would it work with cingular?

All GSM networks, in North America use either 850 or 1900 or both. Not 900, ever! I don't know where this came from, but I hope it's clear now.

If you aren't sure still, visit http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/index.shtml, click on your country, pick your service provider (if listed) then click on Network Information. See Network Type.
