Hi. My contract expired with cingular a few weeks ago and I called and canceled. I don't hardly use this phone so I want to do prepaid. Can I use this same phone? It's a nokia 5165. Can I just go to walmart and buy a cingular phone card (or any card) to use with this phone. Will I be issued a number? I'm a novice so I need all info in detail. I do not want any contracts. Thanks

If u hardly use the phone, maybe you can lower your usage plan to one thats more fitting. With Cingular if you are out of contract there is no extra monthly fee. If u took your phone to them now you could have it activated with no contract. Or you could call up customer support and they would hook you up too. Maybe if you didnt cancel it too long ago they could reuse your original number. Im not sure if they sale prepaid sim cards in the states yet, if they do u could get one from any other provider and install it in your phone. The only downfall to this would be that you would have to have your phone unlocked. Someone PLEASE correct me on this.

Are you saying to call cingular to get it activated again? Will they bill me every month. I do not want to get a bill from cingular at all. I want to buy my minutes. I'm not sure who i need to talk too? This is confusing...I guess what I need to know is...Can my 5165 nokia phone be used as a prepaid phone..If so, what are the steps i need to take to activate it. I don't know what SIM means and there is no slot in this phone to install anything? Thanks again :-)

cingular in your area might offer prepaid service. It wont hurt to ask cingular. right now your phone is locked to the cingular network. if your want away from cingular you will need to have it unlocked. sorry bout the sim, your phone isnt gsm.

cingular doesnt offer prepaid anymore for tdma phones. your phone is a tdma phone. the new plans for prepaid are only for gsm phones. you should get a trackfone instead. prepaid with cingular sucks. you will be happier with trackfone.

Well darn, i was really not wanting to buy another phone...but I guess i will check out the trackfone. Still open to all suggestions on what is the best phone to get for prepaid. I want one that the minutes will not expire until after 90 days. What do these prepaid phones cost? Thanks again :-)
