I'm currently have a Verizon calling plan that I'm not happy with. The cost of the plan is $65 per month (including a $4.99 fee for text messaging), but my monthly bill ends up being $90-$100. They charge $30-$35 a month just in taxes, service charges and other additional fees, which I think is absolutely ridiculous.
I'm wondering if service providers are competitive enough to do things like paying your early contract termination fee, provide you with free cell phones, and/or waiving activation fees in order to get your business. If I were to cancel the remainder of my contract with Verizon, I would have to pay a $175 early termination fee. I've been thinking about going with Cingular's new service, but I'm not paying the $175, buying new phones, and paying activation fees just to switch service providers. I was going to email them to ask if they would be willing to do this, but they don't have an email contact, and I hate dealing with these service providers on the phone. Any suggestions?

Maybe I'm asking the wrong question. Has anyone ever asked another service provider if they'd be willing to pay your early termination fee in order to gain your business?

I work for Cingular, and I can tell you that Cingular does not pay OSP termination fees. I haven't heard of any carrier doing that.
The best thing to do is go to an authorized agent, you may find one that will pay it off for you, but I would be surprised if they did. Good Luck.
