GSM vs CDMA
In a way my CDMA phone roamed better then my GSM, when I roamed with my verizon phone, it worked flawlessly, but my GSM would not roam because europe like most of the world needed a phone with the 900/1800 band, so my phone would not work

You have 4 bands for US Commerical Wireless Services
Cellular band 850 MHz also known as 800 MHz you are reqiured to send out the analog "AMPS" signal. Digital is optional on Cellular. There are 2 block A and B In almost every market there are 2 Cellular providers. analog becomes optional Feb 18, 2008. Most will do digital with TDMA (going bye bye) CDMA GSM.
PCS band 1900 MHz digital signal is required (analog is optional, but nobody uses it) There are currently 6 blocks A,B,C (30 MHz) D,E,F (10 MHz) TDMA(going bye bye) CDMA GSM are used
G block will go to Nextel
H and J block will someday be auctioned off
I block will not be aucitoned off
SMR band is used mainly bye Nextel, but there are a few other providers out there. It is 700,800,900 MHz range. The lower 800 MHz 801-824 is going bye bye for public saftey. They use iDEN digital
AWS band 1700/2100 MHz "Advanced Wireless Services" It will require a Broadband wireless transfer like EV-DO or W-CDMA with HSDPA THis will be auctioned in 2006 probably start to see in 2007.Last edited by agentHibby; 06-03-2005 at 01:20 PM.
The best provider gives you a plan with the minutes you need at the right price. The coverage that you need to make calls all the time.
