My parents and myself are planning on migrating to Cingular from AT&T soon and I want to purchase online from either Wirefly or Amazon. Is there anything we need to do to end our AT&T contract and transfer our numbers over, etc. or will the sites handle that?

Thanks, just want to clear this up before we do anything.

just sign up for the provider that you want and cancel your old provider. that's what i always do. in this way you get new phone but i don't know if your old number will be carried over to your new plan since they merge.

Before following Erwin's advice, let me tell you a few things about the migration.

I'm not sure that Wirefly or Amazon can do migrations. Based on what I've heard from people on this site, and working for Cingular, I believe the only way you can do a migration is by either going into a store, calling Cingular, or using Cingular.com. Before doing anything with Amazon or Wirefy you better check with them about doing a migration. I can tell you that however you do it, if the migration is done correctly, your AT&T account will automatically be terminated with no penalty, and your phone number will be transferred to Cingular. If they tel you that you have to cancel your AT&T contract, don't do it, because their not doing a migration.

I'm gonna call Cingular and see what they say. Thats kind of sucks if you can't just buy it from anywhere and they'll handle it regardless. They'll be getting a customer either way so why should it matter?

Well I'm gonna call them today and see what they say.

anytime you want to transfer your number from one service to another, you must still have service with your old company untill they transfer the number. Its your number but if you cancel service it goes back into there pool of numbers to be recycled.

you are gonna have to go to a cingular store to merge or call to do it. That is the ONLY way to merge a family plan. It kinda sucks. You will get all the promotions on the new phones anyway.
