    I went to upgrade my phone at the 1 yr. price at the Cingular in Walmart, the phone I wanted was $55, the Rep called cingular to make sure I was eligible for the upgrade. Cingular said that I would have to go to an actual Cingular store to do that. I get to the Cingular store and the same exact phone for the same 1 year upgrade was $179.99 !!! Needless to say, I now have Verizon!!

    Walmart cannot do exception upgrades. You could have been close to your regular contract end date. But instead, they were going to do it eairly(exception), in which you could ONLY do at a Corporate store. You should have just waited untill your upgrade date which is normally 1 month before your contract end date.

    I didn't have a problem having to go to a Cingular Store, my problem was with the price of the phones being so different.

    well you have to understand that third party dealers sometimes offer other deals to get you in to get the phone from them, but be careful, some 3rd party dealers have secondary contracts that if you don't read carefully, could screw you over.

    It sounds to me you were trying to do an exception upgrade. You werent quite eligible for an upgrade yet. However if you goto a corporate store they will and can do an exception upgrade to allow you to upgrade sooner. You could have just waited untill your contract was up and you could have gotten your phone at walmart for $55. Walmart cannot do exceptions hince sending you to cingular to actually do it.
