I bought a 6102 for my wife on our existing Cingular account. The included ringtones are lousy and so she asked me to download a MIDI ringtone.
I installed the Nokia software and I can log on to the phone and use the software to send a processed MIDI file ringtone to the phone. The phone refuses to use the new ringtone.
I called Nokia, and their tech support walked me through the process. It does not work. The Nokia tech claimed that Cingular locks the ringtone download feature to force customers to buy ringtones from their site.
Is this correct and is there a work-around? It's pretty cheap of Cingular to insist that we buy a ringtone when we spend $300/mo or more on phone calls (travel, international roaming etc).

Thats odd because I just yesturday swapped my lgC2000 for this phone and I already have 3-4 mp3 ringtones on there that i made myself. Try using Zedge.no <-link and make a free account and use the upload shack. Thats how i did it. Then move the tone to the ringtones folder and rename it and it should work. I don't have any extra software or anything.

Does zedge.no charge you to download the files that you upload?

Thanks for the quick response, I am about to buy the USB cable, but I wanted to get some ring tones for now to hold me over.

Yeah you're welcome, I think I might just buy one too, but I already have the Media Basic or something like that so I have plenty of internet access so who knows.

Well I bought the USB cable, I have already downloaded the software. Just got to wait for it to arrive. I was kinda upset with the quailty of the mp3 I uploaded and I don't really want to pay for trial and error everytime. Plus I got a lot of videos and pictures I went to get off my phone.

Yeah, your exactly right. I was getting a lot of extra noise in the MP3 I uploaded from zedge.no
That site worked perfect unlike many of the other sites I tried. But I just wasn't satisfied with the quality. I'd rather have the USB cable anyway so I can play around with it more. I don't have a multimedia package and I know it doesn't cost much to upload songs, but I'd rather do it for free if I could ;D

Did you change any of the Mp3 qualities or change it to mono because when you upload regular mp3's at around 128kbps they sound really loud and messed up. If you havn't try mono and maybe 56kbps with low mhz too...depending on what program you use to cut the mp3's. This weekend I think I'm going to look for a data cable for myself...

I went to http://www.bad-behavior.com and just downloaded the tones that were already made. If the cable doesn't clear up the quailty then I will have to try your sugestion. Plus ripping it at 56kbps will make it smaller..
Thanks for the info
