Replacing Stolen Phone, confused?!?!?!

My g/f had her phone stolen so we need a replacement for cingular..........I kind of want to stay away from ebay since I hear many stories of phones not working. Anyhow I read on a couple forums that you simply buy one of those prepaid phone packages for $30-50 and simply call customer service and have them activate the SIM card on our regular account and it will work. I was just wondering if this is true??? BTW, if it matters our original phone was a Samsung P207. Otherwise if we do resort to getting a phone off ebay, how do we know if it'll work for us. Thanks a lot!!!! -Brian

I suggest going to a company-owned retail store for the SIM. Customer care will probably charge you 20-30 dollars for it. Stores usually give them out for free. Just make sure it's Cingular-owned and not an agent/reseller.

Yes ,it's that simple. You need a new SIM# and the new IMEI# and Cingular will just register your account to that SIM and phone.

If it is a Cingular or unlocked phone, then all you would need to do is just put in your sim card and it should work.

Ok, you have a SIM card registered. That SIM will work in any Cingular phone. The phone you put it in will have the phone # and price plan associated with that particular card. The IMEI is basically the serial# of the phone, located in the battery compartment of most phones. It is mainly used for identification and basic troubleshooting issues. You don't need either of them.
