I need some assistance. I have Cingular account (not on contrcat), and am using a Motorola flip phone.

I want to be able to retrieve corporate e-mail as well personal as e-mail from two pop3 server accounts (comcast.net and compuserve.com).

I was thinking about a Treo 650, but when I went to a Cingular retailer I was told that the Blackberry 8700C was the way to go if I was looking for multiple e-mail account access and phone.

At $300 after rebate, that's a hefty amount for the Blacberry. I know there are older Blackberry's out there. I'm not a road warrior, but do traval occasionally and want access to all my e-mail accounts, with a qwerty keyboard and want a quality phone.

Cingular has some refurbished blackberry's on their website (7290 and 7100g)

    Any suggestions.

The Treo's can do everything a Blackberry can and More. Do more research.

    Blackberry or Treo

I've done quite a bit of research since the inital post. I've looked at User manuals, and see that the Cingular salesperson was incorrect about the Treo not having the ability to acces multiple (both corp and pop3) e-mailservers.

I've read personal Cnet reviews which are inconsistent. It seems to be a personal preference.

    So, I'm stil stuck.

Head over to www.mytreo.net and check out some reviews and ask around.

I have no personal experience of either phone, but I've been coveting them. Noodling around on the web, I see that T-Mobile has a $40/mo plan with a Blackberry 7290 which, after the rebates and so on, costs nothing! Unlimited web costs another $5 per mo. Might be worth a look. I tried the Treo at a store and found the keys hopelessly close together. Solidly built and a nice screen, though.

    Blackberry or Treo

    Quixote:

I am deadlocked as well, I went to a Cingular store yesterday and looked at both the Treo 650 and the Blackberry 8400c.

They are both very nice. A friend uses the Teo and loves it. He likes the fact that the Treo has a touch screen. I played with Blackberry at Circuit City, and noted how the wheel works. I like them, but I would like the touch screen option.

The company I worked for used the blackberrys, then switched to the Treo... everyone up there now swears by the Treo.

    Ah, this discussion...

there are really a few things that you need to go through before you make your decision.

    1st..
Are you right or left handed?

Sounds like a stupid question but the thumb wheel on the blackberry is on the right hand side, and it is very clumsy for a left-handed person to navigate through it.

    2nd..
What is your usage going to be like?

If you need to have every single email that is sent to you immediately, the blackberry will push the messages from your account to your phone and notify you. The Treo will requirre you to push a button (oh my..) and get into your account to see if there are any new.

    3rd...
What is your system running on now?

The Treo is made by Palm, and is compatible with all Palm software. There would be no conversion need to transfer data into the phone.

    Last..
What do you want to do with the data that is in the phone?

The Blackberry and the Treo are both full HTML capable, meaning you can look at web sites just like your computer. The difference is that the Treo can manipulate documents, so if someone send you a word/powerpoint/email/etc. you can make changes and send it back. With the Blackberry, viewing is the only option.

Both pda phones require a data plan to use the full functons of the phone. That is an extra expense on top of your voice plan, so you need to be ready for that. Prices range in plans with MB usage, you don't want to go over on that.

That is my little selling email, you can choose for yourself. My thought is that if you are going to spend the money for a pda phone, go ahead and spend a little more so you can do everything, ie Treo. IMO the hands down winner plus it has bluetooth, a camera and video functions.

Before anyone gives me grief, I am going by the Treo 650 and the Blackberry 7290. I don't know anything about the newer Blackberries, so you would be on your own.

    Hope this lengthy message helped...

I didn't know that. That's a rather major issue! Now if only Treo would drop that cramped format and switch to something like the LG vx9800 or the Sidekick.

    Re: Blackberry or Treo

Does anyone know the difference in cost of monthly data plans between BB and Treo? It appears that Treo is so much cheaper. (for example, Sprint quoted a price of $15/mo. for EVDO data plan, whereas Blackberry data plans seem to be around $45/mo.) Is this accurate??
